Sarah and Stephen were married and held their reception at The Ashes near Stoke-on-Trent back in September 2011.
The Ashes is a gorgeous venue made from old converted barns all made of stone. There is plenty of gardens and other areas for photos. It is nestled off a main road although once in the venue you wouldn’t think so but the winding driveway takes away this fact! The West Barn is licensed to carry out wedding ceremonies and civil partnerships. Fine dining takes place in the stunning East Barn.
Sarah and Stephen met just before her 21st birthday, Sarah herself was studying at Sheffield Hallam University where Stephen’s father, was one of her lecturers! A curry night out….led to the pair getting together and as they say the rest is history! Stephen is around 6ft4 with Sarah a very petite 4ft 9.
The day’s filming began at the Best Western Moat House in Stoke for the bridal and groom preparations. It’s always nice to start with this as it’s one of my favourite parts of the day. Sarah was a very cool, calm bride throughout the preparations. In fact, she is a really lovely, bubbly young lady!
Barry in the meantime arrived a little later than me and went straight to the groom’s room capturing the latter groom preparations before Stephen and his groomsmen headed off down to the hotel bar for last minute drinks, before leaving the hotel to make their were to The Ashes.
Sarah wore a gorgeous ivory aline dress with tulle layers and intricate beading all over which she’d purchased from a bridal boutique in Doncaster. The bridesmaids all wore sage green long dresses made of silk. Various forms of transport were arranged with the groom, groomsmen, bridesmaids and the mothers of the bride and groom travelling in a Daimler, the guests on a vintage bus with Sarah travelling with her father in a Beauford and yes they managed a short trip with the roof down!
The ceremony itself was beautiful with the couple adding personal vows to each other then Sarah’s sister sang “Make You Feel My Love” and wow what a voice she had and it was song with much emotion!
Photographers on the day were husband and wife team from Wakefield – John Gardner Photography, a lovely couple to work with. Everyone in the room had a little giggle before the ceremony got underway as Sarah on arrival in front of the Registrars was handed a decorated a little step up just so that she could increase her height a little to be on a more level playing field to Stephen. It was so sweet – what a lovely couple to have gotten to know and work with! Filming ended shortly after the first dance and the diary room. We had been told by the groom that Howard Webb had been invited to attend the wedding reception depending on where he’d been refereeing that day. Unfortunately, he was down in London refereeing a game and with a late afternoon kick off, wasn’t able to attend in the end. Throughout the evening I was videoing guest messages and we got lucky with the diary room as the wedding coordinator allowed me to use one of the freshening up rooms where there were settee’s chairs, shower room etc for guests to come in relax and leave their messages without the background noise of the disco. Not all venues have this so it was great to have this.
